Decking takes more of a battering here than the brochures suggest, especially on the flatter, more exposed plots around Scunthorpe and Goole where there’s little to break the wind coming off the Humber. We use pressure-treated joists set on adjustable pedestals or concrete pad foundations rather than resting timber straight on soil, which is where most decking failures we get called to repair actually start.
Composite boards cost more upfront but need no re-staining and hold up better against standing water than softwood, which matters on gardens that don’t drain quickly. We can build split-level decking around existing trees or changes in ground level, and always check drainage falls away from the house before laying the first joist.
A standard 4x3 metre deck usually takes 3 to 4 days including groundwork. From £1,900 for pressure-treated softwood, from £2,800 for composite boards, both fully fitted. Balustrades and steps quoted separately depending on the site.
